The project aims to develop a short intensive work experience/professional practice module/experience for post graduate students in the Management School.

The fellowship is to be used to research the development of a workable model that offers the opportunity for a majority of post graduate students, irrespective of background, to gain some experience of the professional workplace. The work will focus primarily on the Faculty of Management and Law but it is hoped to develop a template which can be exploited across all disciplines. At present the relationship with the professional world varies significantly across the Management School. The undergraduate programmes are well served with strong professional practice year.  At post graduate level there are however much weaker relationships with respect to student exposure to professional practice.

The key goals therefore are:

  • To enhance the student experience at postgraduate level.
  • To develop an enhancement to the current programmes at MSc which will have tangible benefits in terms of the improved provision within the course and potentially significant intangible benefits in terms of differentiating Surrey from other competitors in the post graduate market.
  • To begin the development of a model or models which can be applied across all faculties.
