This course, developed on the basis of the SCEPTrE fellowship, transforms the teaching of a ‘regular’ Political Psychology and Electoral Behavior seminar into a hands-on, research oriented experience, incorporating the use of survey questionnaire design, the development of attitude measures, and the analysis of data and report writing in the curriculum. The learning and teaching processes maintain a strong focus on review and evaluation of academic research in the field of Political Psychology and Electoral Behavior, by integrating the theoretical and empirical component of the curriculum on a weekly basis. Each meeting is structured around a specific empirical problem which engages all students. The course follows a carefully structured timeline and theme-line which allows students to build on the knowledge they gain every week, while at the same time it promotes experiential active learning by hands on workshops, development, administration and analysis of data collected by a class-designed survey. The course extends the possibilities of professional training that students currently receive in the Department of Politics.
