Page history last edited by Norman Jackson 12 years, 10 months ago

Iwi is using her SCEPTrE fellowship grant that she has been awarded to fund a qualitative small scale pilot investigating the use of PDAs with PebblePad installed  ( http://www.pebblepad.co.uk/) by 7 students on placement/working as graduate trainees.

PDAs are used by students to capture learning experiences during (but not exclusive to) their employment which they reflect on and provide evidence of.  Examples of evidence are photographs, blogs, presentations, agends/minutes of meetings, management accounts etc.  Evidence is used to create assets which are transferred to an asset store in PebblePad and collated by students to form their own personal webfolios.

Iwi will evaluate the use of social networks (namely Facebook) as an informal learning space and the assets populated by students and included in webfolios.  Iwi will investigate the potential use of PDAs for work based learning and conduct in depth interviews, focus group sessions, evidence brainstorming/ideas generation from students on the PUPPS away day.  Iwi will investigate themes around whether PDAs help bridge/integrate formal and informal learning spaces and situations and the extent to which using the PDA becomes part of everyday life.  Iwi will address issues around whether the PDA added value in terms of reflective practice in the context of work based learning and influenced what assets were populated in PebblePad.

The PUPPS launch took place on 19.08.09 (see video below)

Two PUPPS blogs have been posted by Iwi - one before the official start of the pilot (1.10.09) and one afterwards.

Iwi's ongoing PUPPS blog since the start of the pilot can be viewed here:

All dialogue between participants of the project (placement students) and Iwi can be viewed here...

A portfolio of the project is hosted in a blackboard module:

An output of the scheme will be a creation of Iwi's own webfolio created in PebblePad in relation to the PUPPS project - so watch this space for that!
